This course is an introduction to the use of structure, color, and texture in weaving through a series of experimental samples and finished projects. Students learn to set up and use a 4-harness loom, and a study of drafting and fabric analysis is included. A variety of techniques including hand-manipulated tapestry and loom controlled patterns are taught and explored as a vehicle for the translation of ideas in this medium. The emphasis is on invention and developing a personal approach.

 

Students were required to make samples for a specific end use.

I chose to make samples for women's dress and outerwear.

Throughout the whole semester I kept on thinking about what home meant to me.  

Our family never stayed in one place for more than two years so I never had a clear image of home in my head.

However,  throughout the semester, while gathering refrences and thinking deeper into the concept,

I have realized that my grandparents house, which never changed, was the only image of home in my mind. 

so my final samples were inspired by my childhood memories, where I spent most of my time at the grandparents' place.
